about

These neo-folk acoustic pieces are based on fragments know as Galant Schemata. These were developed in the late 18th century as building blocks for composition and improvisation. Each schema defines a four note melody, a bass line, and accompanying chords. They have amusing names such as "The Meyer", "The Jupiter" and "The Prinner". They helped make the transition from elaborate, ornamented Baroque music to the new Classical period. I think you will hear strongly the flavors of music of that time, hidden a bit by the use of non-period instrumentation and the addition of modern drum beats. I took additional inspiration (and some song titles) from the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold.
